The Bakun Hydroelectric Dam, which will be located on the Balui River in Sarawak , Malaysia , will have an ultimate installed capacity of 2400 MW comprising 3x300MW in the first phase and 5x300MW in future phases. The scope of work includes the supply of materials and construction of the main dam, spillway, intake, penstocks, bottom outlet works, powerhouse, hydraulic gates, stoplogs , cranes and associated electrical and mechanical installations.

The project provides an excellent platform for Sime Engineering as it is in line with the company's expansion into the power industry after the involvement in the Port Dickson Power Plant for 440MW Gas Turbine Project, the first gas peaking plant fired in Malaysia and the erection of 3 x 700MW or 2100MW steam turbine generators and mechanical works for the Janamanjung Coal Power Plant, which is the largest power plant ever to built in Malaysia and South East Asia in a single location.

With the award of the Bakun Hydroelectric Dam Project, it will complement the experience cycle of Sime Engineering building power plants eg: Port Dickson Power Plant - gas powered; Janamanjung plant - coal powered; and the latest Bakun Project - hydro powered. The capability acquired in building power plants of various energy sources will make Sime Engineering a formidable force in the power generation industry in Malaysia as well as in the region.

The Design & Build Sime Darby Convention Centre Project comprises a Convention Centre and a Training Centre. This project has a contract period of twenty four months to complete and when completed offers the following facilities :

A. The Convention Centre

• 3 convention halls separated by 2 foldable partitions
• 6 function rooms with 2 foldable partitions
• 1 kitchen with necessary equipment, crockery, utensil and dining furniture
• 3 levels of car parking space and open parking space
• 2 pairs of escalators
• 2 passenger lifts and 1 service lift
• All other mechanical and electrical services for the installation of ACMV, electrical and security equipment, sanitary and plumbing equipment, CCTV, audio and visual equipment and MATV which must be approved by the local authorities concerned and
• All external and ancillary works.

B. The Training Centre

• 3 training rooms
• Necessary supporting administrative offices and facilities
• 2 toilets
• 2 laboratories
• 1 lecture theatre with capacity for 200 persons
• 1 pair of escalators
• All other mechanical and electrical services for the installation of ACMV, electrical and security equipment, sanitary and plumbing equipment, CCTV, audio and visual equipment and MATV which must be approved by the local authorities concerned and
• All external and ancillary works

Qatar Petroleum (QP) plans to develop the Bul Hanine (BH)and Maydan Mahzam (MM) Fields further by the addition of new wellhead jackets (WHJ's) and pipelines in order to increase total production of Hydrocarbons.

Sime Engineering Sdn Bhd will provide the following facilities and systems to the BH and MM fields:

• 3 New WHJ's BH-D05A, BH-M04A and BH-I03A
• Pipelines, spur lines & umbilical associated with the above 3 new WHJ's
• Pipeline and umbilical from MM-I07C to MM-J09B for supply of gas lift to MM-39 * MM-41 wells
• Pipeline from MM-I05A to MM-J04B for supply of gas lift to MM-28 and 48 wells
• Umbilical from BH-D05A to BH-D07A WHJ
• Oil Pipeline from BH-K04A to new pipeline from BH-M04A
• Modifications on existing platforms- BH-M05, BH-J07, BH-SA, PS-3, MM-J09, MM-J04, MM-I07, BH-27, BH-32, MM-I05 & PS-2
• Miscellaneous well hook-ups in BH and MM fields
• Provision of Sub sea Ball valves in BH and MM fields
• Addition of Bulk and Test Manifolds on BH-J06A
• Addition of ESD Valves in Gas lift lines, flow lines etc on WHJs in BH and MM Field
• Modification of Flow lines and Gas Lift lines on BH and MM Fields WHJs
